| 内容記述 | Since the Basic Act on Food Education was enacted in 2005, food education activities have been implemented in early childhood education settings. Experiences such as cultivation and harvesting of plants and vegetables have become important food education activities in early childhood education. However, implementation of cultivation activities and other activities varies depending on the circumstances of each facility. We herein investigated the use of a simple cultivation kit as a method for enabling effective food education through the experience of cultivation even at facilities that do not have fields, etc. We held a food education event in which cherry tomatoes were cultivated indoors using the kit. A questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the effectiveness of this food education approach as well as expectations in early childhood education settings. The university students found the experience and sight of cherry tomato cultivation to be pleasant and enjoyable. Using “awareness” of the effects of cultivation activities on one’s own feelings as a measure for food education approaches, the present food education approach was found to be effective for the cultivator and second- to fourth-year students. First-year students had not yet reached “awareness”, indicating a low effectiveness, but they were not in a state of “no awareness”. The cultivator in particular was left with many impressions, which contributed to “awareness”. The university students thought that the present approach was effective as an early childhood education activity both in fields and gardens and at facilities that do not have fields or gardens. These findings suggest that, although small in scale, simple cultivation of cherry tomatoes is an effective food education approach. | |||||
